For our 2nd annual Idaho Gives giving campaign we exceed our funding goal by 130%, putting Piper's Peak in the top 30 fundraisers for small nonprofit organizations. With your support and contributions we will continue to provide safe and quality outdoor-education experiences for women and girls.
As covered in a New York Times article, "Women are now [2017] the fastest growing demographic in fly-fishing, one of the most male-dominated outdoor sports. That has presented a host of challenges, including finding proper gear, navigating the pitfalls of social media and even developing an awareness for self-defense skills in the outdoors." And though newer statistics provided by Ben Kepka of Fly Fisher Pro are available and show that there are still strides to be made for women anglers as they only make up 30% of the population.
Maybe the most telling statistic is that 91% of current fishing participants started fishing during childhood. This emphasizes the importance of bring education programs to our youngest humans, a focus of Piper's Peak.
Through the generous donations made to Piper's Peak you can expect to see more opportunities for girls and women to pursue the outdoors with passion.
